Yesterday evening, the Bexar County Democratic Party elected Roberto Flores as its Interim Party Chair. Roberto Flores at that point was a precinct chair with the party and the co-chair of the Stonewall Democrats in San Antonio, Texas. He was selected to replace Carla Vela, who stepped down to make a run for office as the county clerk for Bexar County.
One of the first acts as Interim Party Chair was the approval by the County Executive Committee (CEC) to seat several new precinct chairs to the CEC, to fill unexpired terms. The terms of these new precinct chairs and the new party chair will run through May of 2010, when a new county party chair and new precinct chair will be seated.
In one of her final acts as party chair, Carla Vela announced that the Bexar County Democratic Party is missing over $200,000 from its bank accounts. She says that the county party treasurer had been draining the account for over one year.
